Kristin Bays
Kristin Bays was born in Lubbock, Texas in 1968. At Coronado High School in Lubbock, she participated in debate becoming a UIL state debate champion in 1986, attended the national speech and debate tournaments for 1985 and 1986, and was a member of the state champion Mock Trial team in 1986. Ms. Bays then attended Baylor University, participating in Baylor's esteemed collegiate debate program. With her participation, she earned a number of scholarships to help with the private school tuition. She graduated with honors from Baylor in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, specializing in English, and she earned her Texas teaching certificate. But her participation on and success with Baylor's debate program earned her the esteemed Leon Jaworski Advocacy Scholarship, which is a full-tuition scholarship to the Baylor School of Law. On the strength of that award, Ms. Bays attended Baylor University School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Bays was the recipient of the President's Award for the Outstanding Law Student, the Research and Topics Editor for the Baylor Law Review in her 2nd year of law school, the Editor-In-Chief of the Baylor Law Review in 1993. Ms. Bays also competed on Baylor's Moot Court and Mock Trial teams, winning 3rd Place at the ABA National Tournament in 1992 in moot court, 5th Place at the ABA National Tournament in 1993 in moot court, 3rd Place individual speaker award at the ABA National Tournament in 1993, and won the State Mock Trial Tournament in 1992. Ultimately, Ms. Bays graduated 5th in her class and cum laude in 1993. She sat for and passed the bar exam, and was licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Texas in 2003. Ms. Bays was hired out of law school by the probate litigation firm Dinkins, Kelly & Lenox (now Dinkins, Kelly, Lenox, Lamb & Walker) in Houston. Ms. Bays later moved to the firm of Wetzel & Herron in The Woodlands. That firm specialized in civil litigation, but broke up after a huge court victory allowed the partners to retire. Ms. Bays engaged in a solo litigation practice, and, in 2001, joined her husband to form the firm of Bays & Bays. The successes that Ms. Bays has had for the benefit of her clients are described within the firm practice pages. Ms. Bays served on the board of the Montgomery County Bar Association from 2005 to the present, was the President of the Montgomery County Bar Association during the 2009-2010 term. She is a member of the Lawyers and Judges Buyer's Group, was the chair of the Childrens Protective Services Toy Drive in 2008, and is a member of the Montgomery County Republican Women, the Lake Conroe Area Republican Women, the North Shore Republican Women, and The Woodlands Republican Women. Former Supreme Court Justice Scott A. Brister said, "Kristin Bays is one of the best advocates I saw on my six years on the Supreme Court [given her] intelligence, demeanor and grace under pressure." J. Randal Bays
J. Randal Bays was born in Waco, Texas in 1962 and attended public schools in Woodway, Texas. After graduating from high school, Mr. Bays attended the University of Texas - Arlington and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. After college, Mr. Bays worked in McGregor, Texas for Hercules Aerospace Company, a manufacturer of solid rocket motors for use in missile systems. While he originally held a technical position, he was quickly promoted into management. In August of 1988, Mr. Bays enrolled at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, the school from which he graduated in December 1990. While in law school, Mr. Bays lived in The Woodlands and clerked for The Woodlands law firm of Reade & Harder. Mr. Bays passed the February 1991 bar examination and was licensed by the Texas Supreme Court in May 1991. After becoming licensed to practice law, Mr. Bays continued working for Reade & Harder until 1993, when he accepted a position with the firm of Wetzel & Herron, also located in The Woodlands. While with Wetzel & Herron, Mr. Bays was responsible for the technical aspects of a case pending in Louisiana state court involving design and construction defects of an ethylene plant owned by Houston based Vista Chemical Company. This case settled favorably for Vista Chemical Company in 1997, and following the resolution of that case, the firm disbanded. Mr. Bays then became self-employed as a residential home contractor, while still providing legal services to his existing clients. He eventually became assistant general counsel for the Texas A&M University System, where he was responsible for licensing and defending patents developed by faculty members.
